Newcastle United have been handed a blow in their preparations for the summer transfer market, as it seems the Magpies are poised to miss out in the chase for a midfield target.
Turkish outlet Fotomac report that Oguzhan Ozyakup is poised to sign a fresh contract with Besiktas, preventing him from becoming a free agent in just a few months time.
Former Arsenal talent Ozyakup has attracted plenty of attention from the Premier League, with the likes of Everton and West Ham also linked with a deal for the Turkey international, but the news suggests that all parties are to miss out.
However, the report claims that Ozyakup’s future will not be decided fully as a new deal will include a relatively low release-clause of €12m, which is an affordable amount for all of the aforementioned sides in the market.
Newcastle’s position is perhaps a bit more unstable though as the Magpies continue to be overshadowed by takeover talks, which may prevent Rafael Benitez from being handed considerable funds.
