Rafael Benitez has led Newcastle United to safety in the Premier League this season and the club’s focus will now shift into a different sort of battle, as the Magpies remain on the market and Mike Ashley is keen to conclude a deal.
It’s been a turbulent season on and off the field at Tyneside this season and fans will hope for a swift solution in the coming months, although there is a chance that unpopular owner Mike Ashley will remain in charge for the start of next season.
However, a positive has been provided by Chronicle journalist Mark Douglas, who confirmed that Newcastle remain up for sale and suggested there is more than one suitor for the Premier League side.
On the basis of once bitten twice shy, I'm working on assumption that Mike Ashley will be in charge.
But yes, there's interest (including from PCP). And yes, club is still for sale. https://t.co/Cem6KV1wcJ

In a post on Twitter, Douglas confirmed that Amanda Staveley and PCP remain interested in Newcastle but his wording suggests that there could be more than one consortium pursuing a deal for last season’s Championship winning side.
