Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is plotting his plans for the summer transfer window and it includes eyeing a midfielder from the continent.
TuttoMercatoWeb state Newcastle are keen to push through a move to bring Sampdoria talisman Dennis Praet to St. James’ Park, with the Magpies looking to beat Premier League rivals in the chase for the £10m-rated midfielder.
23-year-old Belgian Praet has been linked with a move to English football, and Newcastle, in the past and an opportunity could present itself this summer, as he could seek a move to push his way back into the Belgium squad.
Praet’s only senior appearance for his nation came in November 2014, following the last World Cup, but he failed to establish himself in the side for the European Championships in 2016 and is extremely unlikely to make the trip to Russia this summer.
However, Praet himself is said to be keen to remain in Sampdoria and his preference would be to remain in Italian football, although other Serie A sides may find themselves price out of the chase.
