Rejuvenated midfielder Mohamed Diame is the current most in-form player at Newcastle according to the Sky Sports Power Rankings.
Diame has cemented his place in Rafa Benitez’s side after a superb turnaround in form over the past couple of months, assuming the role of United’s midfield enforcer during a run of just three defeats in 11 Premier League matches stretching back to late December.
However, it’s the last five matches that are taken into account by Sky Sports, four of which Newcastle were unbeaten in before losing to Liverpool on Saturday, and analysed to determine a players Power Ranking.
The performance of each player is broken down into 32 individual different match-day stats, with each position on the field awarded a certain number of points for different achievements, and then analysed before being fed into a complex system to calculate a ranking figure.
And Diame has accumulated an impressive 4,570 points over the last five matches, putting him just outside the top 50 in-form players in the Premier League according to the Power Rankings.
It makes a stunning turnaround for 30-year-old after he struggled to display his best form in a black and white shirt in the Championship last season after joining from Hull.
The Senegalese midfielder was often played out of position as a no.10 behind Dwight Gayle but is thriving in a deeper role this term, providing a strong defensive presence to compliment the creative talents of Jonjo Shelvey or Mikel Merino.
