Newcastle United are ready to take advantage of an England international’s fall from grace that could see him exit one of the Premier League’s top sides.

Former Southampton man Luke Shaw was hauled off during Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final victory over Brighton at half time, with Jose Mourinho then criticising the player in his post-match press conference.

It’s not the first time that Mourinho has thrown the left-back under the bus and The Chronicle states Newcastle are alert to the situation, with Rafael Benitez preparing a swoop if it becomes clear that Shaw will leave Old Trafford.

Signed by United for a fee of £27m in 2014 and was first-choice left-back for England during the World Cup in Brazil that year, where the Three Lions tumbled out at the group stages, and he’s struggled with injuries and a lack of form since.

Newcastle were interested in a loan move during January but Mourinho opted to keep Shaw at the club for the remainder of the season but it seems increasingly likely he will be on the move this summer.
