Newcastle United face a fierce fight for stability over the remaining months of the Premier League window, as the Magpies seek to extend their four-point advantage over the relegation zone and secure their top-flight status for another year.

Rafael Benitez’s side have struggled for consistency this season and have also seen injury issues have an effect on his first-team squad, although this has aided some of the young talents developing behind the scenes.

19-year-old goalkeeper Nathan Harker earned a shock call-up to the senior squad for the four-day training camp in Spain, where he made his debut in a friendly against Royal Antwerp, and The Chronicle states he will remain with the first-team squad.

With Freddie Woodman on-loan at Aberdeen and both Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow carrying knocks, Harker now finds himself as the back-up to loanee goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and will continue to train with the senior squad during the international break.

He has impressed with the club’s U23 side this season and earned praise from Rafael Benitez after his debut, suggesting he has a solid future ahead of him at St. James’ Park.
