Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United have struggled for consistency in front of goal this season, which is unsurprisingly leading the Magpies to seek additional replacements in that area heading into the summer window.

A wealth of names have been linked with a move to St. James’ Park but perhaps the most interesting is that of Seydou Doumbia, who Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias claim is on the radar of both Newcastle and Premier League rivals Everton.

Previously touted to be available for €7m, Doumbia spent a few months at Newcastle back in 2016, arriving on-loan from Roma in January, but made just three appearances for the Magpies and failed to score a single goal.

The Ivorian is poised to leave Sporting Lisbon this summer and another of his former sides, Swiss outfit FC Basel, are also linked with an interest in the 30-year-old forward.

Given the calibre of other forwards that Newcastle have been linked with, bringing Doumbia back to Tyneside would certainly be underwhelming for fans.
