Newcastle United are entering the crunch period of their Premier League campaign, as the Magpies have just seven games to build upon their four-point advantage over the relegation zone and secure safety in the top-flight.

Rafael Benitez’s side therefore have plenty of work still to do and this weekend’s clash with Huddersfield Town, a side also battling to retain their Premier League status, could be crucial in deciding the outcome of the club’s fate.

For that reason, Newcastle will hope that their best players are fit and raring to go this weekend against the Terriers and the Magpies have been handed a huge boost ahead of the clash.

The Chronicle’s chief sports writer Lee Ryder has revealed on Twitter that Matt Ritchie has returned to training after withdrawing from the Scotland squad through injury, putting him back in contention for the weekend’s clash.

28-year-old Ritchie was a key-part of the club’s promotion campaign last season and remains an important part of the side, despite struggling for consistent form during this term- though he’s turned a corner in recent weeks, scoring two goals in three matches.
