Newcastle United are preparing for a stern test in their remaining games in the Premier League, as they face the first of their final seven fixtures this weekend against fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town.

The Magpies currently sit four-points above the relegation zone and know that a victory against the Terriers will put them on the brink of securing safety but the West Yorkshire side have similar plans for their run-in.

However, Newcastle have been handed a key boost heading into the game as Huddersfield harbour a major injury concern regarding influential midfielder Aaron Mooy, who was forced to withdraw from international debut with Australia after the first of the Socceroos’ games in the international break.

Mooy, who only recently returned from a knee injury, is a key figure in the Huddersfield side and his potential absence hands boss David Wagner a huge blow, as he may have just two senior central midfielders available.

Jonathan Hogg, a regular this season, will continue but the other player available for Wagner is 36-year-old Dean Whitehead, who has played just 64 minutes of Premier League football this season.
