Newcastle have been handed fresh hope of signing Garry Rodrigues this summer after Galatasaray sounded out a replacement for the in-form winger.

Rodrigues has been relentlessly linked with a move to St James’ Park in recent weeks after it emerged Newcastle had a bid for rejected in January, following on from an unsuccessful offer for the Cape Verde international that was tabled last summer.

Reports earlier this week suggested that Galatasaray had raised their asking price for the 27-year-old to €20 million on the back of his impressive recent form, which included a starring performance in the 5-0 victory over Bursaspor on Friday in which he scored the second goal and assisted two others.

However, with interest mounting in the Dutch-born winger, Gunes are reporting that manager Fatih Terim has earmarked Egyptian international Trézéguet as the player he wants to replace Rodrigues in the event that he departs the Türk Telecom Stadium.

Trézéguet has impressed for Kasımpasa in the Turkish Super Lig this season and Terim is an admirer of the attacking midfielder, who is currently on loan from Belgian giants Anderlecht.

News that Galatasaray are already planning for life without Rodrigues is certain to raise the level of optimism that Rafa Benitez has in landing one of his supposed top targets.
