Martin Dubravka has hailed Jamaal Lascelles and admits playing behind the Newcastle captain makes his job as goalkeeper much easier.

Dubravka has played two matches for the Magpies since joining on loan from Sparta Prague and has already established himself as Rafa Benitez’s number following impressive displays against Manchester United and Bournemouth.

But the Slovakia international is refusing to take all the praise for his own good performances and expressed his appreciation of the role that is played by Lascelles, together with the back-four that is marshalled by the United skipper.

“It’s much better for a goalkeeper if you know you have a quality defender in front of you,” Dubravka explained to the Chronicle.

“But all of the defenders we have, they play amazing, especially the second half (against Manchester United) there were many duals in the box and they fought for it.”

Dubravka is expected to start in goal for Newcastle at Anfield this weekend where he and Lascelles will face Liverpool and hope to take another giant stride towards safety with a surprise victory.
