Aleksandar Mitrovic and Jack Colback have dropped down to the Championship in search of regular game-time after leaving Newcastle on Deadline Day.

Mitrovic, who hasn’t started a Premier League match for the Magpies this season, has joined Fulham on loan in a deal that was announced nearly an hour after the January transfer window had closed.

An erosion of trust between boss Rafa Benitez and the 23-year-old precipitated his exit from St James’ Park, with Mitrovic initially travelling to Belgium to sign for Anderlecht before the deal collapsed and a last gasp bid from Fulham saw the Serbia international jet back to England to sign until the end of the season at Craven Cottage.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Aleksandar to the Club,” Director of Football Tony Khan told Fulham’s official website. “He is a talented player who has already amassed an impressive record at the highest levels of the game.

“We’re looking forward to him joining the Fulham squad and helping us build towards our ultimate goal of promotion this season.”

Mitrovic could come face-to-face with Newcastle colleague Colback, who joined Nottingham Forest for the remainder of the campaign, with both primed to make their debuts when Fulham host Championship rivals Forest on Saturday.
