Newcastle United were surrounded with a lot of talk in the January transfer window as Rafael Benitez chased new recruits, with some claims that the Magpies were ready to break their long-standing transfer record.

However, that didn’t occur in the end and Benitez was forced to make his movement in the loan market, bringing in Kenedy, Islam Slimani and Martin Dubravka from Chelsea, Leicester City and Sparta Prague respectively.

The Magpies are still looking for the right signings in the market ahead of the summer though and remain interested in the services of Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen, who scored 21 goals to help the Dutch side clinch the Eredivisie title last summer.

Newcastle made an offer for the 27-year-old Danish striker in January, believed to be in the region of £15m, but Feyenoord stood firm to retain the services of their striker- believing he could be worth significantly more after this summer’s World Cup.

Algemeen Dagblad state the Dutch side are confident they can earn a bigger sum for Jorgensen’s services, with the Eredivisie outfit looking for a fee of at least £20m- significantly more than Newcastle offered last month.
