The England international caught the eye again with a superb performance against the Red Devils, leading to plenty of support for him to make Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad this summer. Should he fail to do so, then he may seek a move.
West Ham are long-term admirers of the former Liverpool man, and expressed an interest during the mid-season window, but Newcastle need to ensure the experienced midfielder remains at the club for the long-term as he’s the sort of player a successful side can be built around.
Players in Shelvey’s mould have also become significantly more expensive in recent seasons and that would hand Newcastle issues if they were to have to find a replacement.
