Newcastle United will certainly find themselves shrouded in transfer speculation during the January transfer window and the majority of the talk will be regarding incoming deals as Rafael Benitez looks to improve his squad.

However, the Magpies may well have to take their fight for survival into the transfer market in a battle to retain the services of a key-player, with the latest reports stating a high-flying Premier League rival are eyeing a swoop.

The MailĀ states Burnley boss Sean Dyche has Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie on his short-list of January targets, as the Clarets look to continue their superb season so far and fight for a spot in European football next year.

Dyche’s quest to sign a winger comes with the news that Robbie Brady is likely to be out for the remainder of the season and Ritchie is the most ambitious name on a list that also includes Everton’s Aaron Lennon and West Brom’s James McClean.

28-year-old Ritchie was a crucial player in Newcastle’s Championship winning campaign last season and has contributed five assists in the Premier League this term but Benitez may be tempted to cash-in as he looks to secure January signings of his own.
