Newcastle United have struggled for consistency in front of goal this season and improving their forward line is the priority for Rafael Benitez as he looks to bolster his ranks this month ahead of the relegation battle that lies ahead.

A number of names have been linked with a move to St. James Park and Newcastle are certainly keeping their options open, with reports stating another enquiry has been made to a fellow Premier League side regarding a striker’s services.

ESPNĀ claim Benitez’s side have made Watford captain Troy Deeney the club’s number one striking priority this month and have lodged an enquiry with the Hornets regarding the striker who has scored two premier League goals this season.

Deeney has been a peripheral figure at Vicarage Road this season, making just seven starts and 13 appearances overall, and boss Marco Silva may be tempted to cash-in on the 29-year-old during this month’s window.

The striker hasn’t achieved the best of form this season but has notched double figures in both of Watford’s last two seasons in the Premier League, so will certainly be expected to improve on a squad that’s netted just 20 goals in 22 games.
