Newcastle United continue to remain active in the January transfer window as they seek to reinforce their squad ahead of the Premier League relegation battle that lies in front of them.

The Magpies are desperate to improve their striking lines in the market, having scored just 22 goals in 23 matches this season, and one reported target is said to be keen on a transfer before Wednesday evening’s deadline.

The MirrorĀ states in their live transfer blog (10:32) that Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho is still seeking an exit from Leicester City before the end of the mid-season window, with the former Manchester City man unhappy with his lack of opportunities.

21-year-old Iheanacho scored twice in an FA Cup fourth round victory over Peterborough United but he’s struggled for opportunities this season, starting just two Premier League matches and yet to find the net in the league.

With the World Cup right around the corner, where Nigeria will play Argentina, Croatia and Iceland, Iheanacho will want to find form ahead of this summer’s tournament as he looks to extend his tremendous record on the international stage- where he has scored eight goals in 13 caps.

Newcastle remain a possible destination for the young forward but it would be a huge surprise to see him conclude a move this late in the window.
