Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is frantically looking to secure key pieces of business before Wednesday evening’s transfer deadline and a boost to the fans is being provided by the latest reports.
The MailĀ states Newcastle are finally edging towards concluding a deal for Sparta Prague’s Slovakian goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, who has emerged as Benitez’s prime target as he seeks to improve his options in goal.
29-year-old Dubravka has been chased by the Magpies for a number of weeks but negotiating a deal has proven to be difficult, as the Czech side rejected Newcastle’s initial offer, but a deal now looks to be close to completion.
Sparta Prague are willing to agree a deal if their demands are met and it’s likely they will chase for a permanent option to be included in any loan deal for the nine-cap Slovakian stopper, which Newcastle are likely to agree to.
Newcastle sit just one point above the relegation zone heading into the latest round of Premier League fixtures, with a massive improvement needed.
