Newcastle United are pursuing options to bolster their forward lines in the January transfer window, after scoring just 22 goals in their opening 23 Premier League matches.

A number of forward targets are being eyed by the Magpies and a new name has emerged on their shortlist, as a report from the continent claims Newcastle and another Premier League side were in attendance to keep tabs on one striker this weekend.

German outlet Bild claims representatives from Newcastle and Stoke City were in attendance for Hertha Berlin’s 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Friday evening, with the Premier League duo keeping tabs on Davie Selke.

The 23-year-old scored in the German capital, his ninth goal this season, and Newcastle are keen on making him their big-name addition during this month’s window- and could sell Aleksander Mitrovic to raise funds.

Hertha, who played in the Europa League this season, would demand a high price for the striker’s services and Newcastle would likely have to eclipse the club-record fee of £16m they paid in 2005 for Michael Owen to land their man.
