Newcastle United face a crucial final few days in the January transfer window but one approach is proving to be extremely frustrating for Rafael Benitez’s side.

The Chronicle reports that the Magpies have seen a second bid for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen rejected by the Dutch side, after the Tyneside giants made the 27-year-old forward their prime target for the remainder of the window.

Benitez has been desperate to improve his attacking ranks throughout the January transfer window and the Magpies were handed a huge boost when Mike Ashley agreed to sanction a deal that would eclipse the club-record £16m paid for Michael Owen in 2005.

However, Newcastle are yet to match Feyenoord’s demands, believed to be around £20m, though they did submit an improved offer on their initial bid of £14m- although that too was rejected by the Eredivisie’s defending champions.

The Danish striker is keen to see his future get sorted as soon as possible, as he looks to ensure he has stability ahead of his nation’s World Cup campaign this summer.
