Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez continues to eye attacking recruits to bolster his forward line, after seeing his side score just 22 goals in 23 appearances.

A number of names have been linked with a move to Tyneside, especially after reports emerged stating that Mike Ashley is ready to approve a club-record deal, and a new name has been added to the mix in recent days.

According to The ChronicleNewcastle hold an interest in West Ham forward Javier Hernandez- who has struggled to adjust to life back in the Premier League since his £16m addition last summer.

Newcastle are said to have been keen on the Mexican striker last year, before the Hammers won the race for his services and brought him in from Bayer Leverkusen, and Rafael Benitez predicts that a deal is unlikely to go ahead.

Benitez does not believe that West Ham will sanction a sale to a Premier League rival, particularly with Newcastle putting a block on the Hammers’ interest in England international Jonjo Shelvey.
