Newcastle United are desperate to improve their attacking ranks this month and are one of a number of sides linked with a move for an experienced England international.

The Daily MailĀ states that Newcastle are keen on signing Arsenal’s Theo Walcott in January, with the 28-year-old likely to leave this month as he seeks to improve his first-team opportunities ahead of the World Cup next summer.

Walcott has featured just 13 times for the first-team this season and has found Premier League opportunities particularly difficult to come by this season, falling behind the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Olivier Giroud in the pecking order.

The England international joined the club as a 16-year-old from Southampton and went to the 2006 World Cup as a teenager but has failed to become an established part of the Gunners’ Premier League ranks for the past decade.

A number of top-flight clubs are keen to sign Walcott and Newcastle will face stern competition for his signature, particularly as Southampton are currently ranked as the favourites to re-sign their former ace.
