Newcastle United are ready to go all-out to bolster their misfiring forward line before the transfer window’s closure next week, as Rafael Benitez secures a top-class addition.

The Magpies have found the net just 22 times in 23 matches so far this season, with it playing a huge part in the struggles that Newcastle have found in their attempts to keep their head above water and to avoid relegation back to the Championship.

Positive news has emerged with reports stating that Mike Ashley is ready to allow Benitez to break the club’s 13-year-old transfer record in the market, with Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jorgensen a player that the Magpies are looking to pay in excess of £16m for.

Newcastle have now been handed a boost with the comments of the Dutch side’s manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who confirmed to RTV Rijnmond that Newcastle are interested in the services of the 27-year-old.

“I know that there is interest, I have not heard from Martin (van Geel) that there are negotiations. You are always dependent on the market, especially if it is an English club, it can go fast,”

Newcastle have reportedly seen one bid worth around £14m rejected by the Eredivisie champions, with a deal likely to have to exceed the £16m mark.
