Newcastle United are poised to complete a transfer deal for a striker this month but the news is unfortunately not regarding a signing who can improve a misfiring forward line.

Instead, The Shields Gazette confirms that England U20 World Cup winner Adam Armstrong has returned to Tyneside after spending the first-half of the season on-loan with Bolton but his stay with the Magpies is likely to be short.

The 20-year-old forward, who was largely used out wide by the Championship side during his spell with Bolton, is set to seal another loan deal in the mid-season that will likely last until the end of the campaign- with a number of sides said to be keen.

The Chronicle recently confirmed that Bolton want to re-sign the forward but added that a number of League One sides are also in the hunt for his signature, including from Blackburn Rovers and Bradford.

Armstrong is reportedly unhappy with his lack of central opportunities during his time at Bolton, which may end the Trotters’ hopes of bringing the forward back to the club, and any side making an offer this month may have to issue guarantees to the youngster.
