Rafael Benitez has renewed his quest to land funds from Mike Ashley to spend in January, following a breakdown in talks regarding a takeover.

Fans had hoped that a deal would have been brokered for the January transfer window, though that deadline soon passed, and it became clear this week that talks between Ashley and Amanda Staveley have reached breaking point.

Ashley, chasing £350m for the Premier League side, will now remain in charge for the forseeable future and The Northern Echo state Rafael Benitez is desperate to secure funds in January as he seeks to push away from the relegation fight.

The Spaniard was left frustrated last summer due to a lack of funding, leading many to be concerned that he could quit his post, and those issues are likely to be raised again if his requests are not met at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle have just under two weeks to complete their proposed transfer business, with Benitez chasing three signings this month.
