Newcastle United remain active in the January transfer window, as Rafael Benitez eyes at least two more recruits after finalising a deal to bring Brazilian starlet Kenedy on-loan from Chelsea yesterday.

A priority for the Spanish manager is in front of goal, where his side have scored just 22 goals in 23 matches this season- which has become a problem in their fight to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

The Magpies seem prepared to go all out for a new forward, with reports suggesting Mike Ashley is prepared to sanction a move that would eclipse the club-record fee paid for Michael Owen’s services in 2005.

However, there is concerns that the right man is not being targeted as reports claim Leicester City’s Islam Slimani is the player in Newcastle’s sights- despite his struggles since moving to England from Sporting Lisbon in 2016.

If Newcastle are to smash their record, then the right player needs to be brought in and these three men would be better options for the Magpies.
