Frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities this season, Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has been linked with an exit throughout the January window as he seeks further action ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
With Rafael Benitez continuing to overlook the 23-year-old despite the fact Newcastle have scored just 22 goals in 23 Premier League matches, it shows that Mitrovic is surplus to requirements- and a sale is likely to be approved this week once the addition of a new forward has been finalised.
Newcastle have so far rejected approaches for Mitrovic, including a bid from relegation rivals Brighton, but their stance is likely to change once Benitez lands a new forward.
