Newcastle United are preparing for significant activity in the January transfer window as they seek to consolidate their status within the Premier League.

A woeful run of form has seen the Magpies slip to just a single point above the relegation zone following last night’s 1-0 defeat to Everton and the situation looks bleak for Rafael Benitez’s side, as they face Arsenal, West Ham, Manchester City and Brighton before the January transfer window opens.

Takeover talks continue to rumble on behind the scenes though and Benitez will get money to spend in January, though it’s not known how much yet, and The Daily Express states two England internationals top their short-list.

Liverpool striker Danny Ings and Manchester United defender Luke Shaw reportedly top Newcastle’s wish-list and a significant boost may be provided by the fact that the pair could be available on-loan, should the Magpies not have the finances to complete a permanent swoop in January.

Ings and Shaw have both fallen down the pecking order at their respective sides after suffering injury problems since their transfers and may look to get their career back-on-track in January with a switch.
