Newcastle United face a crucial period ahead as they seek to push away from the Premier League’s relegation zone and bolster their struggling side in the January transfer window.

The Magpies have suffered a series of eight defeats in their last nine games, struggling to threaten in front of goal- which has led Rafael Benitez to prioritise the recruitment of a new striker as we edge towards the mid-season window.

Newcastle have been linked with a host of names ahead of the New Year, including Liverpool’s Danny Ings, Leicester City’s Islam Slimani and Besiktas’ Cenk Tosun, but the valuation of the forwards could be an issue in January.

However, The Chronicle states that Newcastle are looking to raise their January funds by offloading Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba in January- and have been ‘inundated’ with enquiries regarding the former.

The 23-year-old has found himself behind Joselu and Dwight Gayle in the club’s pecking order this season and is looking for first-team football ahead of the World Cup, where he’s hoping to fire Serbia to a successful campaign.

Unfortunately, the majority of the interest so far has been on-loan and Newcastle would prefer to sell outright, as it would release funds for their own January transfer activity, and it remains to be seen whether they’d sell to a direct rival.

Fellow Premier League strugglers Southampton, Brighton and Crystal Palace have been linked with the Serbian striker, whilst there is also interest from sides in the Championship and from his former side Partizan Belgrade.
