Newcastle United need to turn things around after a poor run of form has seen them secure just one point out of the last 18 available.

Defeat on Saturday to Chelsea was not surprising, given the strength of the opposition, but Magpies boss Rafael Benitez now sees his side sitting just five points above the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Major improvements are needed in the weeks ahead, with Newcastle facing eight matches before the January transfer window opens, but they’ve fortunately been handed a timely boost on the injury front.

Speaking after the defeat to Chelsea, Benitez revealed that Christian Atsu and Paul Dummett are both in-line to feature against Leicester City this weekend- whilst there’s a chance that skipper Jamaal Lascelles could also return.

“They are closer but we will see on Tuesday how they feel. They are getting better. I don’t know about Lascelles. We will see this week. Atsu was very close, Dummett was very close.”

The potential return of Dummett and Lascelles would provide a significant boost to a Newcastle side who have been leaking goals at the back.
