Newcastle United are desperate to bolster their side in the January transfer window and reports are sharing positive news.
The Leicester Mercury states that Newcastle United are the favourites to sign Leicester City’s Algerian striker Islam Slimani, who has struggled to make a positive impression at the King Power Stadium.
The 29-year-old arrived for a £30m fee to bring the African striker in from Sporting Lisbon following the Foxes surprise Premier League winning campaign but has found it difficult to settle into life in England, now finding himself behind Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy in the pecking order.
Leicester are widely linked to be allowing Slimani to leave in January and it seems he’s likely to remain in the Premier League. However, they want to recoup the fee they paid for his services- and that may be difficult for Newcastle to manage.
Newcastle have made enquiries for the striker ahead of the New Year and Benitez sees Slimani as the ideal addition to a front line that has struggled this season.
