The Magpies were close to completing a move for the Brazilian all-rounder during the summer, however the move fell through with Chelsea unable to find a suitable replacement in time.
But with Chelsea looking to invest after the New Year, a move for Kenedy now looks probable, with the youngster now looking set to make the switch to St James’ Park in January for the remainder of the campaign.
The 21-year-old – who joined the Blues from Fluminense in the summer of 2015 – has found first team opportunities difficult to come by at Stamford Bridge since his move.
He has made only three starts all season for Antonio Conte’s side, all of those coming in the Carabao Cup, and is yet to start a Premier League fixture this season.
The addition will be a welcome boost for Benitez, a long-time admirer of the 21-year-old, with Kenedy being able to operate as either a winger, full-back or even a forward.
