Newcastle United face a stern test to turn their disappointing form around in the second-half of the season and Rafael Benitez is demanding funds in January to bolster his squad.

The Magpies have slumped over the past six weeks, picking up just one point from the last 18 available, and risk being sucked into the relegation battle, as they currently sit just five points above the drop-zone.

It’s clear that Newcastle need improvements and The Mirror states Benitez is demanding £20m in January funds to bolster his squad, with that figure potentially rising with a number of sales in the New Year.

Newcastle’s priority is a consistent striker, though that could prove to be expensive, but Benitez is also looking to bolster the club’s options at left-back and between the sticks, as he seeks upgrades on his underperforming side.

Ongoing takeover talks could throw a spanner in the works though as it’s highly unlikely that a deal will be reached before the window opens on January 1st, which means a period of uncertainty will continue.
