Southampton have become the latest in a long line of clubs eyeing up a January move for out-of-favour Newcastle striker Alexandar Mitrovic.

The Serbian has failed to start any of the Magpies 11 Premier League fixtures this term, leading to speculation he could be on his way out of St James’ Park after the New Year.

A number of clubs, including Cardiff City, Brighton and numerous clubs from the Chinese Super League, have already stated their interest in the controversial frontman, and now Premier League rivals Southampton appeared to have joined the race for his services.

The Saints have struggled to find the net on a regular basis this season and manager Mauricio Pellegrino is looking to bolster is attacking options this January to improve on his side’s poor show of only 9 goals so far this season.

While Mitrovic has only 2 goals to his name this term himself, Pellegrino will be hoping a regular run of games can help him and the Saints re-find their goalscoring form.
