Newcastle United are currently embroiled in takeover talks with Mike Ashley looking set to sell to Amanda Staveley and PCP, despite rejecting their opening offer this week.

The Magpies owner is keen to complete a sale before Christmas and, whilst that appears to now be unlikely, a deal is likely to be struck in the months ahead- and it could lead to better times ahead for the Tyneside giants.

One man giving his support for a proposed takeover is Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer, who told The Chronicle that he’s hopeful that a new board will be a ‘good thing’ in the seasons ahead.

“I don’t know any more about it than you do really – obviously Mike Ashley has decided that he wants to sell the club but we will see what happens next. I hope it will be a very good thing in the long run for the football club.”
