Newcastle United are desperate to bolster their attacking lines in the January transfer window but look to be set to face increasing competition in the market for their prime target.

TurkishFootball reports that Besiktas star Cenk Tosun has now attracted the attention of Premier League leaders Manchester City, who have joined the likes of Newcastle and Everton in the hunt for the in-form forward.

Newcastle have tracked the Turkish striker closely this season, watching him in action in the Champions League, but will have to part with a club-record fee if they’re to get their man, with the reports claiming Tosun will cost at least £20m.

That figure would surpass the £16m Newcastle paid for Michael Owen in 2005 but it may well be worth it, with Tosun boasting 10 goals in 18 appearances this season- including a four goal haul in the Champions League.

Manchester City’s reported interest may be a problem, although they do already have Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus in their side.
