Newcastle United have struggled to find stability in recent weeks, winning just one of their last five Premier League matches, and back-to-back defeats against Burnley and Bournemouth risks seeing the Magpies slip down the table.

Rafael Benitez is looking forward to potentially having funds to spend in January, with takeover talks ongoing, and a priority of his is believed to be an upgrade between the sticks- with the Magpies looking to find stability in the top-flight.

Spanish outletĀ El Gol DigitalĀ suggest that Barcelona outcast Jasper Cillessen is being targeted by Benitez, with the Dutch goalkeeper playing just one game this season and sitting behind Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in the pecking order.

The 28-year-old could therefore be tempted with a transfer that would promise regular opportunities, particularly as he looks to retain his spot in the Dutch national side in a period of uncertainty for his nation, and Newcastle could therefore be the ideal fit.

Newcastle sold Tim Krul in the summer, keeping Rob Elliot at the club as first-choice, whilst young Freddie Woodman looks to be the long-term solution between the sticks; although he’s not quite ready for the jump just yet.
