Newcastle United are keen to bolster their ranks in January after a poor period in the season, which has seen them lose four consecutive Premier League matches.

Rafael Benitez’s side have tumbled down the standings as a result, having now gone eight games without a win, and concern is rising with the Magpies sat just four points above the relegation zone heading into tomorrow’s clash with fellow strugglers West Brom.

The club are considering moves in January to improve their side at both ends of the field andĀ The MirrorĀ states Benitez is looking to hand Manchester United defender Luke Shaw an escape from his Old Trafford nightmare, although a swoop will only be on-loan.

Former Southampton man Shaw was a starter for England in the World Cup in 2014 but has seen his career spiral since, following a massive injury setback, fitness struggles and an inability to prove himself to Jose Mourinho.

22-year-old Shaw still has plenty of room to improve and a move to Tyneside would be the ideal opportunity for him to get back-on-track, providing competition for Paul Dummett on the left-side of the Magpies’ back-line.
