League One side Bradford City are understood to want to extend loanee Alex Gilliead’s deal at the Valley Parade after his impressive start to the season.

The Newcastle United youngster, who joined the Bantams on a half-season loan deal during the summer, has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season.

Despite the forward not yet finding the net, his performances have impressed Bradford boss Stuart McCall enough to warrant him to indicating he would like to keep the 21-year-old in West Yorkshire.

“It is something we would look to do with Gilly.” said McCall: “He’s become an important part of the team.”

Gilliead himself is too enjoying his spell with the League One club, saying: “If you’re winning games, it’s a happy place. It means you’re in form and doing well.”

He continued: “Playing at these great places and against such good players is all part of the learning. It’s a great opportunity – but you’ve obviously got to take it one stage at a time and that’s making sure we beat Chesterfield [this weekend] first.”

Bradford currently sit in third position in League One having won 9 of their 16 league games so far.
