Newcastle and West Bromwich Albion are battling to sign Wolves captain Conor Coady, according to the Sun.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez would have seen Coady when the 24 year old was coming through the youth system at Liverpool as a teenager, and it seems that the Spaniard has taken notice of his former player’s excellent form in the Championship this campaign.

Wolves currently sit top of the Championship table after thirteen games, and Coady has been an integral part of the team with manager Nuno Espirito Santo naming the player as captain and moving him from midfield into a back three.

West Brom are also said to be keeping tabs on the defender, but backed by a Chinese consortium, Wolves are in no rush to sell, especially to a near rival. Newcastle would therefore be favourites to sign Coady, but the Sun report that the Championship side could demand as much as £7m for the former England under 20 international.
