Real Sociedad goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli has been shortlisted by Newcastle as a possible January signing, according to the Sun.

The Argentinian stopper only signed permanently for the La Liga club from Manchester City in January after spending three years on loan in San Sebastian.

Russi is seen as a tremendous goalkeeping prospect, and has also been tipped for a move to Barcelona over the past couple of years. The 25 year old has not as yet been capped by Argentina’s senior side but he did feature for the country’s national team at the Rio Olympics back in 2016.

He already has a tremendous amount of experience at the top level having made 104 La Liga appearances during his time in Spain. Despite only being signed by Sociedad for £6m, it is expected the Spanish side would only considering selling the keeper for £15million.

Newcastle have been looking for a new number one goalkeeper since the summer but they failed to make a signing in the position before the close of the transfer window back in August.
