Brighton are eyeing up a January move for Newcastle striker Alexandar Mitrovic in an attempt to solve their worries in front of goal, reports The Mirror.

The Seasiders, despite having a generally positive start to life in the Premier League, have found the net only five times in their opening seven games.

Chris Hughton will now reportedly turn to Mitrovic to bolster is attacking options, and sent scouts to watch the striker in action for Serbia as they lost 3-2 to Austria on Friday.

Brighton’s current top scorer Tomer Hemed, who has two goals, is suspended following his challenge on Newcastle’s DeAndre Yedlin a fortnight ago.

Mitrovic himself too tasted suspension earlier in the season for his elbow on West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini, and has since been left out of Rafael Benitez’s squad since his return, leading to rumours he could be shown the exit door at St James’ Park this January.

The 23-year-old has scored two goals for the Magpies this season, making him the club’s top top scorer alongside both Joselu and Jamaal Lascelles.
