Brighton are eyeing up a January move for Newcastle striker Alexandar Mitrovic in an attempt to solve their worries in front of goal, reports The Mirror.
The Seasiders have found the net only five times in their opening seven games, and current top scorer Tomer Hemed, who has two goals, remains suspended following his challenge on Newcastle’s DeAndre Yedlin a fortnight ago.
Birhgton boss Chris Hughton will now reportedly turn to Mitrovic to bolster is attacking options, and was understood to have sent scouts to watch the striker in action for Serbia as they lost 3-2 to Austria on Friday.
Mitrovic was not on target on the night, but has registered an impressive six goals during his country’s Group D topping qualifying campaign for the FIFA World Cup next summer in Russia.
The 23-year-old has also scored two goals for the Magpies this season despite spending three games out suspended, making him the club’s top top scorer alongside both Joselu and Jamaal Lascelles.
Newcastle fans remain torn on whether they want to see the controversial striker leave this January, especially to a Premier League rival …
No way (a) #nufc will sell a striker to a potential survival rival in Brighton (b) Sell Mitrovic in January unless they can buy replacement
