Newcastle United are flying high in the Premier League standings at the early stage of the season, as they enter this Monday night’s clash with Burnley sat one-point ahead of the Clarets in seventh position.
Both sides have been performing better than many expected before the campaign began but will know there’s still a lot of work to be done if they’re to finish in the top-half of the standings, which would present a solid platform to build upon in the coming years.
The situation does look better for Newcastle though, who are embroiled in takeover talks that the club hopes will be concluded by the festive season, and another victory on Monday against the high-flying Clarets will continue to raise optimism.
BBCÂ pundit Mark Lawrenson expects a close game for Newcastle but has predicted the Magpies to emerge as 2-1 victors, which could see Rafael Benitez’ side rise into the top-four if other results go their way.
‘I have been very impressed by Newcastle, who have been doing much better than I have been predicting they will. Much like Burnley, the Magpies are well organised and well drilled, and are difficult to beat.’
‘This game is going to be very close, but I am backing Newcastle to come out on top – just.’
Such a victory would extend the Magpies’ unbeaten run to four games, which would continue the club’s superb start to the season.
