Newcastle United are keeping tabs on two South American goalkeepers ahead of the upcoming January transfer window, reports the Chronicle.

Rafael Benitez is keen to bolster his options between the sticks after having parted ways with Tim Krul during the summer and Rob Elliott the only viable option for the Spaniard in goal.

The former Liverpool boss will turn his attention to first Geronimo Rulli of Real Sociedad, who is rated at around £15 million by the La Liga outfit.

Rulli moved from Manchester City to Sociedad in January, and his impressive performances have since seen him called up to the Argentina national team for the first time in his career.

Should the Magpies be unable to secure Rulli’s signature, they will instead turn to Uruguayan keeper Fernando Muslera, currently of Turkish side Galatasaray.

Muslera is valued at around £8 million and would represent a cheaper option for the Tyneside club, however would bring a vast amount of experience, with the 31-year-old being capped 94 times by his country.
