Former Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko has expressed his delight at his former club’s good start to the season by saying he is ‘very happy’ for Rafael Benitez and his side.

The Magpies took their tally of top flight points to double figures for the season after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool to leave them in a more than respectable 9th place after seven games played.

Sissoko, who left the club in the summer of 2016 for Tottenham in a club record £30 million move, says he is delighted for his former club.

“I’m very happy for them because Newcastle is a club that deserves to be where it is currently.” said the France international.

“They are making a good start to the season, although the first two games were complicated. But they got better.”

Sissoko, who had a hit-and-miss relationship with the fans during his tenure on Tyneside, has himself enjoyed a good start to the Premier League season with his new club, having  made seven appearances and netted his first goal against Huddersfield Town last weekend.

“They made 1-1 against Liverpool. I wish them good luck. They earn points. They are well ranked. I hope that they will have a good season.” he concluded.

Newcastle next travel to Southampton on October 15 when the Premier League resumes after the international break.
