Isaac Hayden made his Premier League debut for Newcastle United today against Tottenham Hotspur in the 0-2 loss at St. James’ Park.

The former Arsenal midfielder, who proved so impressive during the Championship winning campaign of last year, was paired next to team captain Jonjo Shelvey as the double pivots in a 4-2-3-1 set-up and fared relatively well.

Making 1 key pass and boasting a passing accuracy of 84% (as per WhoScored), the 22-year-old formed part of the compact defensive line to keep Tottenham at bay until Dele Alli’s opener just after the hour mark, before they finally fell to defeat and were unable to confound the prevailing match odds on online-betting.org.

His job was made no easier by the aforementioned Shelvey, who’d been sent off 13 minutes earlier for an inexplicable stamp on Alli, leaving Hayden and the rest of his teammates with an uphill task.

Taking to Twitter, Hayden thanked fans for their support at St. James’ Park and vowed he and the rest of the side would learn and regroup for next weekend’s trip to Huddersfield Town.

Likely to be partnered with Mikel Merino for the game in Yorkshire, another big performance will be needed as Newcastle look to kickstart their return to the English elite.
