According to the Daily Mirror, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is hoping the appeal of becoming a household name on Tyneside appeals to Brentford midfielder, Jota.

Indeed, the 26-year-old is said to be a target for his countryman at St. James’ Park, though they are not thought to be alone in their interest. West Ham United are another believed to be keen on the attacking midfielder, who has just one year left to run on his deal at Griffin Park.

With creativity outside of Jonjo Shelvey proving to be a problem for the Magpies last season, the former Celta Vigo man would go some way into helping ease the burden on the England international. One of the most imaginative players in the Championship last term, Jota notched 12 goals and recorded a further 5 assists for the Bees.

While it’s been a frustrating summer for Newcastle United on the transfer front, the signing of the Spaniard would go some way into strengthening their ranks for life back in with the English elite.
