Norwich have rejected Newcastle’s £8m bid for Jacob Murphy.

According to a report in the Norwich Evening News Newcastle have been told that the winger is not for sale which can often be a code-word to increase the bid.

Murphy made a big impact in the Championship last season and carried that form through into the European Championships where the England u-21 side lost out to Germany in the semi-finals.

Rafa Benitez has been looking to add a pacey winger to his squad since the attempt to re-sign Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace fell through in January.

At 22 year of age Murphy offers a younger alternative to Townsend but at this stage in the transfer window Norwich are in no rush to sell.

It looks like it will take an offer of around £10m to bring the Canaries to the negotiating table with the Championship side aware that they could have an unhappy player on their hands if they continue to reject offers giving Murphy first team football.
