Tom Heardman has completed the paperwork for a season long loan deal to Bury.

The deal was first mentioned last week in The Chronicle and confirmed in Monday by both clubs after the striker had signed a 12 month extension to his Newcastle deal.

Heardman had a brief and unsuccessful loan spell last season at Hartlepool but impressed with the Newcastle u-23 side when he returned to St James’ Park.

Bury boss Lee Clark has used his Newcastle connections to take the striker to the League One outfit where he has former Newcastle reserve coach Alan Thompson as his assistant.

At 6 ft 4 Heardman has always been used as a target-man with comparisons inevitable to Andy Carroll.

With a new 12 month Newcastle contract agreed his spell at Bury will either make or break his prospects of making the big breakthrough at St James’ Park with Rafa Benitez going on record about the need to develop local talents.
